Care: how to care for your Wool product (see below)

Brief Clan History

Ayrshire and Galloway in the south west of Scotland were for centuries the main stamping ground of this clan whose name derives from the biblical Michael, signifying With the likeness of God. It is thought the name may first have been introduced to Scotland by those Anglo-Norman baron who settled there in the twelfth century at the invitation of David I.

Originating from the Hebrew Michael, its introduction to Scotland was through the French Michel. The original pronunciation in Scotland was Michel with the 'ch' sounding as in loch. The name evolved as Mitchell in many parts of the country.

It appears in 1354 on the Treaty of Berwick, freeing David II from imprisonment by the English and a John Michell was rewarded in 1489 for holding Dumbarton Castle. Mitchells became landowners in Ayrshire and Stirling and a bequest from Stephen Mitchell, a tobacco merchant in Glasgow, created the Mitchell Library in the city.

How to wash

In the first instance we recommend dry cleaning all wool products.

If you wish wash by hand or by machine please do not wring the item, or allow the item to float free in a washing machine. when using a machine always place your product in a pillow case so that it does not tangle or loose its shape.

By hand wash gently using luke warm water and when drying taking great care to ensure that the item is placed flat on a towel for it to dry. This way the product will keep its shape and its softness, and look as new as when first bought.
Always use a recommended wool detergent ie Woolite.
